Day 5
The day started out with a big win from the Mens team. The men had an impressive, 9-0 victory against Colby. Our MVP of today's match goes to Rithwick Raman. He showed no mercy to his opponent, taking him down 6-0 6-0 at the 4 singles position. Jake and Treis also had impressive wins over their opponents, each only giving up one game. The doubles matches were a little closer, but they all came up on top after some big breaks. Great job today Hawks! The Women's team was able to enjoy the morning off, where they enjoyed most of their time down by the pool.
The highlight of the day was the annual mixed doubles tournament. There were some great matches, and everyone had a lot of fun. This years champions of the main draw, were team captains, Ashley Miller and Cam Laktash (Cashley). They had a great battle in the championship match with freshman duo, Cassie and Matt. This could earn them a top seed in the tournament next year.
As freshly retired alumni, Jess Vitale and Abby Day had a nail biter of a match against the father/daughter team, the Talyanskaya's. Jackie Vitale acted as team photographer on the sideline with her selfie stick. She wasn't quite ready to come out of retirement for the matches tonight. We can only hope she will make it out on the court next year in Hilton Head. There was also a bracket set up for parents to participate in. Megan Humphreys and her father came out on top, taking the championship title. Which means they might have to move up to the main bracket next year.
It is an early night for the Hawks tonight, because they have some big 8 am matches to play tomorrow. After the Hawks work hard tomorrow morning, they will be able to enjoy the remainder of their day at Daytona Beach.
