Women get two more big wins.

9/13/14

The UWW Women's Tennis Team continued on its roll and remained undefeated this past weekend with wins over UW-La Crosse 8-1 and Cardinal Stitch 7-2.  UW-La Crosse is one of our biggest conference rivals, and Cardinal Stritch is a scholarship program, so we had to play very well to get these wins.

Against UW-La Crosse, we finally had our full line up as Amanda Dick made her debut at #3 singles.  The doubles all started as battles, but our #2 and our #3 pulled away while #1 battled to a tight loss, to give us a 2-1 lead heading into singles.  Our singles lineup played extremely well and we swept at each position.  Humphreys took out new freshman Belissimo, and McGuire knocked off an always tough Mrozek, while Dick was up a set and 4-0 when she tweaked her injury again, but was able to pull it out 6-3.  Upthagrove attacked her way to a win, Beck held off a strong second set surge, and Talyansky had 7 aces in the second set and outhit her opponent to victory.

Against Cardinal Stritch, doubles was the key.  We were down in every doubles match in the middle of doubles play, but the teams each dug deep to pull off three nice wins 9-7, 9-8, and 8-4.  Upthagrove and Dick were pulled from singles due to their injuries, and Siemon and Wallace stepped in and both played very well.  Wallace was first off the court playing very steadily.  Talyansky was last on the court and pulled off an impressive win with great mental toughness against a very solid player at #3 singles.
