Illinois Wesleyan

Last Monday the Men's Tennis team was supposed to travel down to Bloomington, IL to play Illinois Wesleyan University. Unfortunately, the weather was horrible with wind gusts up past 30mph, so the coaches decided to reschedule the match for the next day. Because of this rescheduling the Warhawks were without their number 1 and 6 singles players, Byron Balkin and Brady porter respectively. This would mean that several players would have to step up in their absence.

In doubles because of Balkin's absence the normal 2 doubles team of Andrew Bayliss and Andy McGlashen stepped up to play a tough 1 doubles team from Illinois Wesleyan. Mitch Osborne (Byron's normal partner) teamed up with Cam Laktash at 2 doubles, and Erik Scanlan and Kevin Friend played 3 doubles. 2 and 3 doubles played well from the start each getting quick victories. 1 doubles though was a different story. The team from Illinois Wesleyan took advantage of Bayliss and McGlashen uncharacteristically weak returns, and won the match 8-4. This meant the 'Hawks would lead 2-1 heading into singles.

In singles the Hawks won the first set at 3-6 singles. 1 and 2 singles dropped close first sets. Bayliss would end up rallying to win his second set at 1 singles 6-1, but McGlashen was not as lucky and he fell 6-7(6), 4-6. Osborne, Scanlan, and Klein all stepped up and played well at 3, 4, and 6 singles respectively. In fact none of them lost more than 3 games in their match. After winning the first set at 5 singles Rademacher lost the second in a close breaker. This meant that 1 and 5 singles would be decided in super breakers. Bayliss continued his strong play in his tiebreaker to take it 10-3. Rademacher's super breaker was not as easy. His opponent presented a tough match up for RJ, and he whenever he seemed out the match he clawed his way back in. Rademacher was too tough in the end though and won the super breaker 10-8. This sealed the 7-2 win for the 'Hawks.
