Monday saw the beginning of the outdoor season, which started with a bang, but didn't end up going in our favor. The men's team battled hard, but lost a tough 5-4 match to Colby College out of Maine. Great play was seen yet again out of 3 doubles this time featuring Cam Laktash and Kevin Friend making his much anticipated return to the lineup after being out with a stress fracture in his shin. The duo was able to capture the lone doubles point for the Hawks winning 8-6. The ladies also started with an extremely exciting match in which they fell 5-4 to #10 Depauw. Depauw is a very tough opponent and was able to fight back on the Lady Hawks and recover from the doubles sweep the Warhawks were able to get. Sweeping Depauw in doubles is no easy feat, and accomplishing that should give the Lady Hawks a strong bode of confidence heading into the Midwestern Invite. After the tough start the teams responded great seeing consistent effort and strong play, with the exception of the Women's match vs. Carleton which we lost 5-4. In the words of head coach Frank Barnes "we'd like to have that one back." However, a true measure of a teams character is how they respond to adversity, and wether it was the Ladies responding to a disappointing ending to Depauw, or the men having their most energy of the season in the match immediately following the 2-7 loss to Depauw, the Warhawks showed they had character and a burning desire to get better. One they have already taken back to Whitewater with them.

Spring Break 2014
Last Week the Men's and Women's tennis teams headed south for spring break, traveling to Hilton Head, South Carolina. Hilton Head offers a uniques tennis experience through the PTR, playing at some very scenic parks and clubs on the lovely island. The team arrived on Friday and was set to practice the entire weekend. The weekend sessions were capped of with the annual mixed doubles tournament, which was won by perennial powerhouse Alexandra Bayliss and her dad Mike.
