This Friday the Warhawk Men's Tennis Team took on Carthage College at Four Lake Athletic Club in Elkhorn, WI. The 'Hawks and the Carthage have had good matches in the past, and the guys were ready for this one.
At 1 doubles Carthage feautred a tough team, but Osborne and Shklyar came out playing on fire. They jumped out to an early break lead and never looked back winning 8-3. With Balkin/Bayliss sitting out of doubles McGlashen/Humphreys got the opportunity to jump up to 2 doubles, and they made the most of the opportunity winning 8-2 against two big servers. Klein/Friend played the 3 spot, and after struggling early they found their stride and won 8-4.
In singles, Shklyar notched a good victory at 1 by defeating a tough lefty. At one point in the first set Shklyar was down 2-5 before he came back to win the set 7-6(0). Balkin played a familiar opponent from his high school days, and came away with a tough 6-1, 7-5 win. Andrew Bayliss played a tough opponent but pulled out another tough 6-1, 7-5 win at 3 singles. Cam Laktash and Matt Bisbee both dominated from the start at 4 and 5 singles respectively. With players sitting out for singles Michael Schnarr got the opportunity at 6 singles. After a great first set winning 6-2, his opponent turned up his level of play and forced the match to a third set breaker. Michael regained his composure though to win the tiebreaker 10-7.
