UWW Women vs. UW-Milwaukee

On Friday March 9th the Women's Team head to Milwaukee, WI to take on D-I University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. This was the first match for the Lady Warhawks since they finished their fall season at the WIAC Conference Tournament last October. We just started practicing two weeks ago, and we have been working on getting the ladies ready for a challenging spring season. It was great way to start out our spring season by playing great competition like the UW-Milwaukee Panthers. As the matches started off the ladies looked good, but we could tell it had been four months since their last intercollegiate match. 1 doubles fought hard, but the Milwaukee team was just too tough. At 2 doubles we started off a little slow, but eventually our extreme consistency frustrated the Panther's team and we forced the match into a tiebreaker. The UW-Milwaukee team came up with some great shots early in the breaker and they were just too tough. At 3 doubles it was close throughout, but the Lady Warhawks lost 8-4.

Singles was more of the same story. It was obvious the Panther's were in mid-season form, and we had just a little more work to do. It's great to play these teams coming back from a long break because the ladies have little to lose and it's great competition. The lone victory of the day came from sophomore Jackie Vitale who won at 6 singles 7-6(3), 6-1. This week we will continue to work the ladies to get back into mid-season form for the rest of our Spring Season. The next match for the ladies will be against UW-Madison March 17th at 12:00pm in Madison, WI. Come out to support the Lady Warhawks if you are in the area!
